SUPREME, 2021, 40" X 30" X 1.5", ACRYLIC ON CANVASMy painting Supreme, 2021 is built upon the covenants of Kazimir Malevich's Suprematist art movement which he invented in 1917. His art focused on basic geometric forms, such as circles, squares, lines, and rectangles. The term Suprematism refers to an abstract art based upon "the supremacy of pure artistic feeling" rather than on visual depiction of objects. My painting goes beyond Malevich's rules to include more biomorphic shapes fused upon each other to create a more centralized figure. This painting also explores the use of colors which would never be used by the proponents of the original movement. Again my goal is to create a fusion using components of previous art movements attempting to fashion new interpretations and hybrids.

This work was painted on a wood panel, cradled by 2 inch New Zealand Pine. Signed, dated, and titled on the back. Ready to hang.

The practice of making them involves experimenting with many schools of art and diverse art movements from the early 1900s to the present. My work has been described as minimal, concrete, reductive, geometric, hard-edged and non-objective.For the most part, I do not adhere to a "recognizable style" and instead depend on my intuition and shift back and forth within different parameters. Sometimes I work in pairs but have also worked in series as in my Concrete Paintings. I favor flat blocks of color, straight lines, hard edges, the grid, patterns, color juxtaposition, geometry, and patterns. The work is distilled and austere.I work with a mixture of acrylic paint, matte medium, and gesso on canvas, paper or wood, giving my work a matte flat finish similar to gouache paint and creates the great depth of color that I prefer. I finish the work with a coat of matte varnish.I am also influenced by architecture, patterns, graphic design and anything with a minimalist aesthetic. Having gestated and remixed many abstract styles, my intention is to force a new dialogue inherent to abstraction that started in the early 1900s and continues to be relevant to this day. I hope that when a viewer sees my work they will get a feeling of simplicity, harmony, order, and rhythm.My work is in many private collections in the U.S. from coast to coast and Europe.The painting is signed, titled and dated on the back.

STRANGE SCIENCE, 2018, 36 X 48 INCHES, ACRYLIC PAINT, MATTE MEDIUM AND INK ON CANVAS, $3000The starting off point of this work began with another painting, Terminus. As I studied that painting the notion of oddly geometric buildings and of negative and positive space became the jumping off point. Using a T square and 30/60 and 45/90 degree architect triangles, I started mapping out in pencil rectangular shaped "buildings" affixed to one another. I then erased certain lines, leaving a mere hintof the geometry and using masking tape to delineate the outlines filling in the voids in green and orange acrylic paint. What remained was a very minimalist illusion of space and of the unseen geometry.After looking at this for awhile I felt that the space needed to be "activated" and started thinking along the lines of other unseen modes of our industrial landscape.Tunnels, highways, roads, silos, maps, circuit boards all came to mind and as usual my instincts took over and the marks manifested themselves in an automatic manner. The resulting image seemed both strange and scientific and perhaps futurist. Hence the titled.
